Search for an SEO company in Fort Worth and you will get pages of agencies. Some are not in Fort Worth. Some are not really doing SEO. And every one of them says they will get you to the top of Google.
Most owners start this search for one of two reasons. Referrals have become unpredictable, or the last SEO company took the money and produced nothing. Either way, you cannot afford to pick wrong twice.
We are an SEO company in Fort Worth, so we have a horse in this race. But we also get the calls from owners who hired badly, and we see the same mistakes every time. This is the process I would use if I were hiring for my own business.
Agencies are good at selling you what they have. Decide what you need first.
Write the answers down. Any company that does not ask you these questions in the first conversation is selling a package, not a strategy.
Search the way your customers search. Google “SEO company Fort Worth” and look past the ads. Ads show who is paying, not who is good. Check the map results and the regular results under them. Keep in mind that map results change based on where you are standing, so treat them as a starting list and not a ranking of quality.
Ask owners you trust. Talk to people in your trade, your chamber, or your networking group. Ask who they use, how long they have been with them, and whether the phone rings more than it used to.
Look at who is already winning. Search your own main service in Fort Worth. Scroll to the bottom of the sites that outrank you. Many of them credit the agency that built or manages the site.
Confirm they are really local. A real office address. A local phone number. Someone who can sit across a table from you. Plenty of companies with a Fort Worth page are run from another state or another country.
This is the step most owners skip, and it is the one that tells you the most.
Look at their clients, not their pitch. A serious company will show you a portfolio and case studies with real business names. Pick two or three of those clients and Google them the way a customer would: the service plus the city. If the clients show up, the company can do the work. If you cannot find the clients anywhere, you have your answer.
Read the reviews for details. Star ratings are easy to collect. Look for reviews on Google, Clutch, and UpCity that mention results, communication, and how many years the client has stayed.
Read their own website. If their content is stuffed with keywords and says nothing, that is what they will publish under your name.
We wrote a full list of 12 questions to ask before hiring an SEO company, so I will not repeat it here. If you only have time for four, make it these.
Pay attention to how they answer as much as what they say. If they cannot explain their methods in plain language, they either do not understand them or do not want you to.
A long commitment is not automatically a red flag. SEO takes months to work, and a company that asks for time to prove itself is being honest. The problem is a long commitment with no deliverables, no benchmarks, and no way out.
Before you sign, make sure the agreement spells out what work gets done every month, what it costs including any setup fee, how you cancel, and who owns the accounts and the website. At Nickel SEO we would rather earn your business every month than hold it hostage.
Once you hire, this is the SEO work you should see. If it is not happening, you are not getting SEO.
SEO also works better when it is connected to the rest of your marketing. A company that can handle your website, your Google Ads, and your reputation alongside SEO will catch problems that a one trick shop never sees.
Fort Worth is not Dallas, and DFW is not one market. Someone in Aledo rarely hires a contractor from Plano. A company that treats the whole Metroplex as a single keyword will waste your budget.
A team that knows the area will build your strategy around how people here search. That means showing up in the Google Local Map Pack for the neighborhoods you serve, targeting suburbs like Keller, Southlake, and Arlington with their own pages, and knowing which parts of town are worth fighting for in your industry. That is what real local SEO looks like, and it is hard to do from a call center in another time zone.
It depends on your market, your competition, and how much work your site needs. Be suspicious of anything priced like a phone bill. We break down real numbers in our Fort Worth SEO pricing guide.
Local is usually the better fit for a service business. A local team knows the market, can meet in person, and has clients you can look up. A national agency can work if you get a dedicated strategist and they can show results for businesses like yours in markets like this one.
Most local businesses see movement in 3 to 6 months and real lead growth in 6 to 12. We cover the full timeline in how long SEO takes to work.
